Took a lesson here and was overcharged on ground time, the instructors are paid extra for overcharging ground time. Not a friendly place, this is a puppy mill, tried to book my exam there and they couldn’t figure out how to open the calendar to book online. Very messy.

It is nice to see a flight club that really does a great job taking care of its aircraft and its facilities. The people are always nice, and it's always a joy to visit there. My brother learned to fly here, and I have to say he is probably one of the best Private pilots I have ever seen. They've done a great job with their training program.

Skill is a pretty awesome place, did my PPL training here. People are very genuine and invested in seeing you succeed, they really care. You’ll have a primary CFI who’s the main point of contact and guides you through most of your training. That being said, anytime my CFI was out, they were typically able to find someone else for me to fly with. There is a well-structured syllabus that lays out very explicitly what’s expected of you and what you should come prepared with for each lesson, so you can be efficient with your time. The planes are solidly maintained, never any corners being cut that might compromise safety. For PPL training, you can pick from (DA20, DA40, C152, C172, also SR22 if you really wanted to) and for most of those options, there is more than one, so if there’s a maintenance issue you have an alternate (provided someone doesn't have it booked). Also they are very upfront and transparent about pricing, none of that discounted/prepaid block nonsense or trying to obfuscate rates. KUGN is also a great place to learn in my opinion; it’s a towered field so you’ll get lots of practice with that, and ATC is cognizant of challenges that come with being a new student pilot (being patient in clarifying, repeating things, etc.). Also, the airport is out of the O’Hare airspace so you won’t spend forever just getting to the practice area in the first place. Overall, a great flight school with very cool people. Definitely recommend checking them out.

So far my experience at Skill Aviation has been fantastic and I would highly recommend Skill Aviation if you are interested in learning how to fly. The program is well structured following a detailed syllabus hitting all necessary points to achieve your licenses. I have been working with Drew as my flight instructor for the past few of months and he's been absolutely expectational. Drew always finds time to explain complex concepts and sends extra material to increase your knowledge. He's been great at holding me to a high standard and motivating me throughout the journey. In the rare occurrence Drew couldn't be available to do a lesson, the other Skill instructors who filled in have been equally as good. Definitely one of the best schools around

Skill Aviation is an excellent flight school with awesome instructors and very well maintained planes. I have tried three different flight schools and none of them come close to how professional this flight school is. I highly recommend Skill Aviation for your flight training or even just aircraft rentals.
