Got my Private pilot license here. Took me longer than many others as I struggled with good landings and had a delay getting my medical. I would definitely recommend you try a Discovery Flight at FlyRichmond, then get you medical out of the way. Only issue would be limited availability of rental aircraft here, but hopefully they will be increasing their fleet soon.
