I attended a year ago, this crash course is good, it’s a crash course so it’s fast paced but John and other instructor ensures that you pass those exams and get your certification, as long as you lock in and get what you came for, don’t give up. I recommend this school. I did 11 years in the Navy, and let me tell you I learned way more in that course.

I had 19 years of military aviation experience and would have NEVER been ready for my written exams, or O&P if it wasn't for this course. That being said, you NEED to have an understanding of aircraft systems already because if not, you will fall behind. This course is not meant to teach you how to be a mechanic. You will go over a mind numbing amount of questions on a computer, but that is meant to PREPARE you for the tests, as this is a prep course. The material you don't know on the practice tests is gone over thoroughly and explained in detail so you know how and why things work, this will help you with your Oral board portion. You need to be honest with yourself and the instructor when you don't understand something or you will not be ready for the Oral portion. You will not get much practical training in the course, but I found that the practical portion was not nearly demanding as I was anticipating. With a decent amount of mechanical ability you should be fine on that. If you're looking for a hi tech institute to teach you the basics of how a airplane or helicopter works and do lots of hands on removing and replacing of parts, this isn't for you. You need to have already had that experience under your belt. What this course will offer you though is preparing for the written tests by bombarding your brain with almost verbatim questions on the tests and preparing you for the Oral board through explanation of what you don't know while reviewing the tests. You will need to study each day after class or you will fall behind, I recommend attending this course with a friend that you can study with after class. You will need to be committed with your time to this course and what you get out of it will be a direct reflection of what you put into it.

*review your records, I passed* If you want to sit in folding chairs at folding desks with computers from the 90’s then this is the class for you. All you will do is take practice exam after practice exam. You can do better if you study from home or pick a different prep course. Travel if you need to. My entire class agreed that this instructor was scamming the military certification programs. He provides little to no hands on training and is purely focused on profits. This is a one man shop and operates out of a dungeon. If you call the AF COOL or GI bill to complain about the instructor or the course he will remove you and not reimburse you. Anyone who had a negative experience needs to call their respective funding programs in order to get this business removed as an authorized location.

My experience at Carolina Aeronautical was from June 2020 Best decision I made during my A&P training was to take John's 7 day oral and practical course. He is a very knowledgeable mechanic and excellent instructor, who takes the time to ensure each of his students understand and are well prepared for the exam material. If you truly want to be a licensed mechanic and have the self discipline to actually put forth an effort with studying you will succeed. My practice scores went from failing to upper 90's by the time it came to the real deal. At the time I had never touched an aircraft on the job, now I work on D model Chinook helicopters.

I received my FAA A&P authorization forms in 1988 but never took the tests. I had been out of the aviation industry since 1990 and hadn't been involved with aircraft at all since then. Then, 25 years later (2015) a new job presented itself in aviation maintenance that required me to get my A&P certification. I had all of the study guides at home but felt the need for a refresher due to the amount of time that had passed. I will agree that the course seemed tough sometimes but it was mostly due to my age hampering my ability to retain some of the material that was being taught. Sometimes at the end of the day my brain felt like jelly from all of the information that we'd gone over! Once you walk out the door headed to the written testing facility it's all up to you! I never saw John send anyone to take the test that hadn't exhibited hard evidence that they could pass. Some of us took longer than others to reach that point but he made sure we were up to speed before we went. The same is true for the Oral/Practical. Everything is gone over in class that you will need to pass this portion of the testing. There is a caveat though. The written test is just you and the test. The "test" doesn't care and can't influence whether or not you pass it. It's up to you! The Oral/Practical is a different animal. It consists of you, the examiner, and the test subject. The Examiners have strict guidelines that they must follow but the Practical portion is based heavily on their "opinion" as to whether or not you demonstrated completion of the task satisfactorily. If there is a personality conflict or some other apparent "rub" between you and the examiner it's going to be a long day! Again, the school has no control over this. It's up to you. I passed all of the testing. I feel that if I hadn't taken the course there would've been a healthy dose of retesting in my future and I'm not sure I would've seen it through.
