I started doing my own study program for the written exam well in advance of going to the airport. In the summer of 2025 I attended an open house sponsored by Tennessee Flight and met Regina, the Base Manager. She is interactive and good natured while juggling many repairs, schedules and an array of record keeping. You get good heads up notices and she treats you like one of the crew! After meeting the owner of the school, I met Jon Hall, one of the flight instructors. Jon is one of several instructors and you have the ability to team up with someone you feel comfortable with. For younger folks there are two fulltime instructors at this location that have great flexibility in scheduling. I took a couple flights with one of these other instructors and learned other techniques as well. Jon and I are older and he is still working so this was a good fit for me. We took our first flight in August of 2025 and I was encouraged to finish my ground training and get my endorsement on my own. That week I got the endorsement and a week later passed the written, all for fifty bucks. You can do the ground school here but it takes many hours of self study so be prepared. You can approach this training any way you wish as you can see and I have learned a great deal with Jon in the process. Yes, we have weather and plane issues, but that assists a student in understanding and dealing with things as they occur. Flying is plane problems, weather issues and making sound judgments. The staff at Crossville Airport are professional and the operation is extremely efficient. If I can enjoy this experience at 67 years old, so can you.

Regina came and talked to the Extended Learning Program at Gordonsville High School. She discussed various careers in aviation and brought her flight simulator so the students could experiment. She did a fabulous job and our students really enjoyed this opportunity!

Loved doing a discovery flight with TFT. Great place to work on a private pilot license. The base manager and instructors are very knowledgeable and helpful. Great environment!!
