What is Part 61 flight training?

Training conducted directly against the part of the federal aviation regulations that lists what every pilot must learn and demonstrate. There is no FAA-approved syllabus to follow, so the instructor sets the order and the schedule bends around the student. Most independent instructors and small flight schools work this way.
