This review is specifically for the Professional Piloting program at UAA.

Prior to this program, I had a Private Pilot Certificate (Part 61) and 10 years of experience in USAF fighter aviation as a backseater for the F-15E Strike Eagle. For a student who is willing to put the hours in training, studying, and contributing to the aviation community, UAA offers many opportunities. They put students in contact with industry connections, help them by clearly defining a degree/career path, and have instructors with broad experience outside of piloting (ATC, Management, Law, Military, etc).

This review applies to the pilot program. Overall the program is a decent choice for VA or scholarship students. If you're paying your own way, it's probably not worth it.

PROS:
- The maintenance department is awesome: UAA's C-172s are the best maintained training airplanes in AK
- Most of the flight instructors are good
- For VA students, the GI Bill will cover the whole program

I’ve had a great experience at UAA Aviation Technology. The school is well-organized, safety-focused, and the aircraft are well-maintained. Most CFIs are professional, skilled, and passionate, making for an effective learning environment. They also offer great opportunities for scholarships, mentorship, and pilot development programs with various airlines. The only downside is the long waitlists.
