I had Chino Aviation conduct a prebuy on a Cherokee 140 for me. I spoke with Gus and he made a lot of promises with his smooth talk. He promised documented photos and break down of all that was wrong with said aircraft. Needless to say that never happened. In fact, the only thing that happened was a phone call ensuring me that this was not an aircraft that he would purchase due to some couple of significant unairworthy items I.E. patches in flight control surfaces. Gus said no need to conduct a full prebuy because he had seen enough and no need to waste my money or his mechanics time. I really appreciated that at the time, not knowing that this guy was going to send me hand jammed bill with a list of thing wrong that were never discussed or photos sent of as he initially mentioned.
Yes I received 1 bill that yes I honestly ignored because I thought it was ridiculous. Then he contacts me again through text and email with another bill and like 3 sets of late fees. I replied with this exactly “ Good evening and to whom it may concern,
I never received half of what I was told by I assume the owner. I was told I would receive photos with a description of depicted defects. I never even received what was wrong. I will say I appreciate what I was told over the phone which was he wouldn’t purchase the plane because it was un airworthy due to several things 1 being modifications to controlled surfaces that were not in regulation. The the gentleman I was on the phone with said he didn’t need to look much further after that. So to now receive a bill with a laundry list of items and no photos as promised, with late fees is out landish.
I don’t mind paying at all because I’m sure some work/time was invested but this is absolutely not what was discussed.”
To which then he wanted to talk and not reply to the email in writing. He did take off $300 and I do agree to it just to be done but I still think it’s BS to charge me 3rd of a prebuy and you not even provide me with half of what was promised. To top it all off apparently they gave the owner a list/receipt of items without my consent like he paid for it (maybe that’s normal but just seems wrong to me).
It’s done now but just beware of the silver tongue.
