I am a private pilot from Colorado and fly a 182. One of my bucket list items is to land in every state; so while on vacation I rent an airplane so I can make those landings. While in South Carolina I scheduled a 172 with a local instructor from CHS Flight School. Matthew Pennock (hopefully I got the last name correct) was the instructor. He was one of the most gracious and professional flight Instructors I have ever flown with. I would highly recommend Matthew to ANY ONE who is looking to learn to fly and would definitely go with CHS flight school.

I have nothing but great things to say about CHS Flight School. As a flight instructor who moved all the way across the country from Washington State to South Carolina to join the team, I took a leap of faith—and without a doubt, it turned out to be the best decision I could have made. From day one, I was welcomed into the CHS Flight School family. Laura, Kirk, Shay, Zach, and the rest of the team genuinely care about both the students who train there and the instructors who work there. It's clear that their mission is to produce skilled, confident pilots while maintaining the highest standards of aviation training. This is the approach to aviation training I wish I had started with. If I could do it all over again, I would do all of my training with CHS Flight School.

Wonderful experiences so far, expansive fleet across many locations is a plus for students and renters alike. The well structured syllabus means students benefit from organized and thoughtful training so they aren’t in the dark at any point. A well struck balance between the structure of part 141 schools and the flexibility and pricing of part 61. As well as offerings beyond the basic certs (Multi, high performance and complex training) CHS satisfies every need on a reasonable budget

CHS flight school is insanely effective and knows how to get things done, despite all the obstacles aviation throws at you. I would love to see this school's IFR6 and COM3 programs grow larger in size and have more locations. I came to Charleston with my own airplane to take IFR6 and COM3 back to back, and I left right on schedule with two certificates in hand. My plane had problems midway through and they got me scheduled on very short notice in their aircrafts to complete the programs and check rides. The instructors and the program administrators are all great to work with. They provided me with the resources I needed to pass 2 check rides in 2 weeks. I hear this story a lot and mine is no different. I have been training off and on for 4 years to nail my instrument, running into roadblocks everywhere-- instructor turnover, hurricanes in Florida, long waitlists, hard to find a CFII with availability in the evenings and weekends while I'm working full time, daylight savings robbing precious day time, going on a trip mid training and coming back to basically start all over because last time I nailed it and now I'm rusty again, or there are no DPEs available for a while. I've had all the requirements for my IFR rating completed for several years but no one to get me to the finish line who is willing to actually sign me off. In my experience with part 61 flight schools, we just keep doing the same things over and over again for months until either you leave or your instructor leave for a new job. Given, so many variables are out of both of our control, so having the flight school basically providing a team dedicated to your success, helping solve your roadblocks, is refreshing. CHS Flight School is the remedy to this shortcoming. They are something the industry desperately needs. Their prices are fair and if you do the math, you will be paying more in another Part 61 flight school after training for months and never getting signed off or scheduled for a check ride. There were several setbacks we resolved. The DPE cancelled and they were able to get me in quickly with a new DPE on the same day or the next day. There is a weather makeup day baked into the programs if needed. The instructors assisted me in the logistics of getting my airplane fixed at a reputable mechanic and sourcing the parts. On falling short of expectation on the mock check, I was given a chance to try again the next day to improve and earn my sign off. Passing is never guaranteed, however, instructors were confident enough in their own instruction that they are able to sign students off when the program is completed (in my case). I also noticed the DPEs were confident in the instructors and the program, so the check rides went very smoothly. Highly recommend this school if you are considering it or on the fence.
