Coast Flight Training

I visited Coast for an SR20 Discovery Flight yesterday and was impressed with the flight school overall. The staff was very friendly and accommodating and the plane was clean and well cared for. My instructor, Eva Clement, was awesome. It was my first time in a Cirrus since the very beginning of my flight training and the airspace is very complicated. Eva was able to help me get a good feel for the aircraft performance, perform some maneuvers, and demonstrate an instrument approach. If you are thinking about signing up with a flight school and are looking for a more deluxe experience, I highly recommend Coast.

Pros: very modern fleet with pretty good maintenance. g1000 makes training so easy. good training location, real flight experience in crowded, complex airspace. beautiful sites obviously given it's SD. school curriculum overall pretty good and i thought the pace was good - fast but not overly so for my first few ratings. Rest TBD... Cons: #1 thing is that Coast is very political and management is incompetent and extremely authoritarian... their way or the highway even over the most minor things. really poor treatment of students unless you advocate for yourself or suck up to them. Professionalize the org and get rid of the insane egos at the very top is my recommendation... i mean a few of them have really let power get to their head. it's a flight school.... 2) instructors hit or miss and you can't really choose. again, see above. some really amazing ones, some less so.. 3) very expensive but expected given it's SD.. still other cheaper options nearby. Overall, decent experience but plagued by the same issues many flight schools are BUT charge a premium to them so not really justifiable.

I’ve had an amazing experience at Coast Flight Training, and have been able to receive my PPL, IFR, CSEL, CFI, and soon to be CFII rating. The instructors are knowledgeable, patient, and truly care about your progress as an individual and as a student. I can’t say enough positive things about the instructors I’ve met and had the privilege of learning from. The aircrafts are well maintained and the admins makes scheduling a smooth process. Overall, this school has helped me gain confidence as a pilot and has always created a welcoming and supportive environment to learn and grow.

I’ve had an overwhelmingly positive experience with Coast Flight Training. With so many flight schools to choose from in Southern California, I did extensive research and toured multiple schools. Coast Flight Training stood out immediately with the nicest facilities by far. Coast operates a fleet of 17 well-maintained aircraft, three free desktop simulators, and an FAA approved simulator. What truly sold me, however, was the customer service and maintenance staff. Anytime I had a question or concern about an aircraft, the on-site maintenance team was readily available to assess and address it, which provided a great deal of confidence and safety. Scheduling was also very flexible and accommodating, allowing me to efficiently complete my training within the projected timeframe. Additionally, Coast’s location in San Diego at Montgomery-Gibbs Executive Airport provided invaluable experience training at one of the busiest Class D Airports in the country. Training in this complex airspace helped build real-world confidence, and I now feel comfortable navigating any airspace nationwide. I would highly recommend Coast Flight Training to anyone looking to earn their private pilot license recreationally or to those pursuing a career in the airlines.

Coast is an exceptional school if you're looking for either Part 141 and Part 61 training, which makes it easy to find a path that fits your goals and schedule. The programs are well-structured, the aircraft are well-maintained and reliable. Knowing the airplanes are consistently cared for adds a lot of confidence, especially for students early in their training. Whether you're looking for a fast-track program or go at your own pace, Coast has something for everyone!
