Yellow enclosed-cabin gyroplane in flight against a clear blue sky

Glossary

What is the base leg?

The leg of the traffic pattern flown at right angles to the runway, joining the end of downwind to the final approach. It is where the descent is established and where height is judged against remaining distance.

Also called Base

That is the whole entry for now. The longer version, with the mechanics and worked examples, is still to be written. See autorotation for how those read once they exist.
